The 2020 Dakar Rally was the 42nd edition of the event and the first edition held in Saudi Arabia. The event started in Jeddah on 5 January and finished in Al-Qiddiya 17 January after 12 stages of competition. The rally is an off-road endurance event. The terrain that the competitors traverse is much tougher than that used in conventional rallying, and the vehicles used are typically true off-road vehicles and motorcycles, rather than modified on-road vehicles. A tail of dust from a race car is seen during stage two of the Dakar Rally, between Al Wajh and Neom, Saudi Arabia, Monday, Jan. 6, 2020.

Two young pastoralist boys practice archery trying to hit a target with hand-crafted bows and arrows in Amudat, Uganda next to the Kenyan border on January 26, 2020. Bows and arrows were the traditional weapon for pastoralist communities in the Karamoja Cluster region. That traditional feature has gradually become a pure sport tradition as the inter-ethnic peace agreements in the region have succeeded and peace and inter-ethnic collaboration is now a reality all over the region. The Karamoja Cluster of Eastern Africa is an area located between the borders of Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan and Ethiopia and dwelled by different pastoralist and agro-pastoralist ethnic groups that had been badly strained by years of violent, inter-ethnic strife, including armed cattle raids, in addition to the effects of a rapidly changing climate.
