“Mexico Swine Flu: The Christ of Health” (www.chicosanchez.com)

In times of epidemic, Mexico City's Cathedral calls on the Christ of Health to help rid the nation of disease by displaying the statue outside its chapel. In 2009 an outbreak of swine flu prompted the church to turn to the Christ of Health to help.

Judges' Comments

  • No 1st Place was awarded: the judges felt that that the content lacked variety and quality. Web video category should have come a long way and the visual quality for a national contest was just not there. The judges also felt that the audio information should have had more complexity.

    This was a difficult category. Beyond Bangladesh was the strongest entry, most powerful story. Although judges liked the black and white photography, they felt that it didn't translate too well as an online presentation.

    We watched IED's several times and as compared to other entries we concluded that it was the next best entry.

    Christ of Health had great photography worth a mention, but was limited by it's overwhelming audio. It would have been a much stronger piece if there was a little background story to it in a narrator's voice rather than just translated text.
