A Year of Disaster caught attention of the judges as it moved beyond the typical view of life in New Orleans post-Katrina to capture the life and emotion of the people who had returned and were reestablishing their lives. The Scars of Katrina has a lovely style, going beyond the typical aftermath photographs. The Herald Tribune's "Your Photos of the Tornado" could have been much stronger with a firm hand in editing to showcase the strongest photos.
