Best of Photojournalism 2007: Student Video Journalism: Entry Rules
Eligibility
The Student Video Journalism Contest will recognize the best video journalism produced by a student enrolled in a college or other post-high-school video journalism program. You must be a broadcast, journalism, or TV production major, or enrolled in a student-produced video journalism program to enter.
Anyone who is employed full time as a video journalist is not considered a ‘student’ for the purposes of this contest; professional video journalists should enter in the TV Photography or Web Video Journalism divisions instead.
The story must either
- have aired during calendar 2006 on a sanctioned newscast or webcast, or
- have been approved for entry in the contest by your educational institution.
Stories which have not received such editorial approval will be disqualified.
- Entries must have been originally broadcast or posted between January 1st and December 31st, 2006.
- Entries will be accepted beginning January 2nd, 2007, and must be received by February 2nd, 2007.
Contest Categories
The Student Video Journalism Contest is divided into two categories based on the time it takes to produce a story.
Participants may have no more than two entries in each category.
| Category | Description | Max. length |
|---|---|---|
| Weekly Assignments | Any story shot and edited within 7 days. | 5 min. |
| In-Depth Assignments | Any single story, or series of stories, shot and edited in more than 7 days. | 10 min. |
(If your story lasts longer than 10 minutes, please edit it to one 10 minute segment.) |
Submitting your Entries
The Student Video Journalism contest accepts entries on tape, DVD, or the Web. Web entries for which a URL is not provided, or for which the link is not working at the time of judging, will be disqualified.
See Preparing Your Entry for format, mixing, and cueing instructions for tape and DVD entries.
The online Video Entry Form must be submitted for each entry. The confirmation page must be printed and signed, and sent to the contest chair.
- The URL must be included on the entry form for all online entries.
- Physical entries must have the labels firmly attached to the outside of each entry's container and to the tape or DVD itself; if not, the entries will be disqualified. (Do not shrink the entry form!)
Individuals and/or schools submitting more than one entry may ship all their entries in one box, provided each entry is separate within the shipment.
