Best of Photojournalism 2007: TV News Photography: Winners
Small Market TV Station of the Year
Judges' comments
- Joel Eagle
- This may be small market, but the work of this staff holds up in any market. Smart, well crafted stories that evoked emotion, bravo.
- Jay Korff
- The winning station’s entries showcased the kind of poise, pacing and depth traditionally seen at the top stations in the country. This team of photojournalists clearly outclassed the competition and richly deserves this national honor. Any news operation of any size would benefit from watching this entry.
- Regina McCombs
- The first place winner stood head-and-shoulders above the other entries, so with only five in the category, we opted not to name a runner up. All the stories on this tape were very solid, with good images, good natural sound and some great stories.
- Mark Morache
- What a nice surprise! Ten stories that are well told by photographers who are always thinking. The winner’s tape showed amazing consistency. 7 out of 10 of the station’s photographers are represented, and there wasn’t a poorly shot story in the bunch. There was nothing showy or pretentious. The two-part in depth story about Martha is a story I’ll remember forever. Thank you for entering.
- Erica Simpson
- There weren’t a lot of entries in this category. First place was head and shoulders above the rest. Good coverage on breaking news. Good shooting on stories that could otherwise could have been very bland. Much of the shooting displayed patience. I loved the creativity in the features. Very good shooting for a small market.
