SUMMARY - U.S. Army Sgt. Frank Sandoval suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury from a roadside bomb while on patrol in Iraq in November 2005. With his wife Michelle he spent nearly nine months at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Palo Alto, California battling to recover. Traumatic Brain Injury is the signature wound of this war, more than the loss of limbs which predominated in other wars. Caption: Sgt. Doctors had to remove part of his skull mostly to allow for swelling of the brain. He spent almost 9 months at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Palo Alto, CA fighting to recover.
