They have known each other almost since Mia started coming to the red light district—an area in town where a lot of addicts spend their time. Brian used to have a crush on Mia and they were together for a short time. After that, they managed to still be friends with Brian always trying to look after Mia. A couple of days before, Mia was held up by police for smoking heroin at the exact same place; the guy who runs the bike shop there is getting tired of addicts hanging around his shop and calls the police when it becomes too much.
