Chinstraps jump off a cliff to go catch krill at sea. The perilous journey entails dealing with huge waves, which can smash the birds against the rocks, and leopard seals on the hunt. The birds may swim 20 miles or more in search of krill, a shrimp-like crustacean that is a major food source in the Southern Ocean. Arriving back to the nest with a tummy full of krill, the food will be regurgitated into the mouths of their chicks.
