When Video Journal went live in early August of 2005, I had been tasked with bringing video storytelling to my newspaper’s website, Spokesmanreview.com. That same month, Flash developer Joe Weiss, released his groundbreaking Soundslides audio slideshow program which allows for the easy integration of audio with pictures. Video Journal has since become a varied mix of multimedia storytelling and blogging.

My video stories are a mix of news and features with an emphasis on letting the subject tell the story. The audio slideshows try to showcase the smaller stories in my community. I also produce an ongoing feature called "Finding the Frame," which has one of our staff photojournalists talking about creative processes that went into shooting a documentary photo. Video Journal has proved extremely popular with viewers and has a growing following.
