Democratic presidential hopeful Wesley Clark, left, greets a voter and asks for his support before polls close outside a New Hampshire primary polling station, Jan. 27, 2004, on primary day in Manchester, N.H. Clark, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander, threw his hat into the crowded Democratic presidential race in September 2003. Considered a late entry, the retired telegenic general drew interest as a strong challenger to President Bush, with his military record and foreign policy experience. Ultimately, missteps blamed on his political inexperience and the unstoppable momentum of John Kerry, Clark dropped out of the race after failing to win enough delegates to remain in the contest.
