Eye on the Nation A rare, intimate look inside the modern-day Nation of Islam. Chicago, Ill. Muslim Girls in Training, or MGT, as they are commonly known within the organization of the Nation of Islam, rest and wait to hear from their leader, Minister Louis Farrakhan at a Savior's Day Weekend convention in Chicago. During the early years of the movement, MGTs were primarily homemakers or personal assistants to ministers and teachers. Today, they still serve similar roles, however, women in the Nation of Islam have been given more administrative duties and leadership responsibilities in their respective mosques. Some political scientists, such as prof. Martha F. Lee of the University of Windsor, categorize the Nation of Islam as a millenarian movement. The theory of millenarianism focuses on a particular segment of the complex weaving together of religion and politics. It is an analysis of how and why men and women envision the perfection of their lives in this world.
